Song/Lyric of the Day

Time seems to be this constant companion that we misunderstand so badly that we fail to realize that it can’t contain the scope of our existence. We base our idea of life on the amount of time we assume or hope that we have on this planet. We make choices based on how long we think it will take for them to work out and accomplish what we imagine. We gauge the entirety of life upon something made rather than the Maker of it.

In truth, these lives are fleeting. And while that is understandably terrifying to those who see life as a collection of years on a mound of dirt, it’s a joy to those who learn to see beyond what our eyes can glimpse. To those found in Christ, the temporal reality of time unleashes this hope that one day soon we’ll leave behind all the woes and pains of this momentary life in exchange for the finally fulfillment of a promise that doesn’t expire.

God defines time, and He also defines life. Us trying to define either using the other is simply a waste, a distraction, another root planted in something passing, and ultimately a missed opportunity to seek the One who set this all in motion. If we only knew how many grains or sand we had, we’d like stop counting them and instead begin seeking the One who placed them in the hourglass we assume life to be.
