Simply put, today's world doesn't think anything from the past is worth anything today. The Bible was written thousands of years ago, so what could those old people have possibly known about how our world works today? What do they know that could help us in any way? Yep, still harping on it because like it or not, this is a very big problem! Without a foundation of truth, what are we building, why are we building it, and how on earth do we know that we're building it right? Psalm 119:11 NIV Without Scripture, how do we have any idea what we're doing or whether or not we're anywhere close to doing it right? Still thinking about this recent study that shows that a majority of self-professing Evangelicals don't believe that the Bible is the Word of God. So what do they believe? Why do they believe it? How do they gauge the rights and wrongs in their lives? What is their goal? What is their foundation? What is the purpose of their faith? And how do they know who and what to place that faith in if they're not guided by the Holy Word of God given to us in Scripture? It just doesn't make any stinking sense! Psalm 119:105 NIV Still thinking about this disturbing study that I heard about yesterday morning. 60% of Evangelicals don't believe that the Bible is that Word of God and that therefore it shouldn't be taken literally. I just can't wrap my mind around what it is that we're becoming. I know that humanity likes to find the easiest path possible, but reaching the point where we're willing to doubt the in the power of Scripture and question as to whether or not it's written with Divine authority is just mind boggling. Hebrews 4:12 NIV Kind of going along with yesterday's post a bit, I got to thinking of reasons why people don't or won't read the Bible. And I honestly think one of the main reasons is the honesty of it. God's truth doesn't pull any punches. It doesn't leave us any room to remain comfortable. It doesn't conform to what we want to hear or validate the desires that we have. It proclaims the truth no matter how bad it hurts. And people just don't like that hurt. We like comfort. We like hearing that we're doing a good job. We like being told that our best is good enough. We like thinking that we can manage to do everything we want to do, no matter how sketchy we know it is, and still find our way to eternal peace and happiness.
