Day 2024 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.

James 1:2 NIV

Our post yesterday talked about how faith isn't about asking God to take away the storms but to help us find peace within them. My Mom mentioned this one in her comment on yesterday's post, and yeah, it goes perfectly! In my opinion, this is one of those keys to life. It's one of those secrets to peace and happiness. In truth, it's not all that hard to find joy in our lives, we just tend to go about it the wrong way.

I love how it says to find it purely joyous to face trials. What, are you nuts? Trials aren't any fun. They're not enjoyable. They're not comfortable. So where's the joy? Well, the joy is in realizing that those trials are chances to grow. It's in learning that we have plenty to learn and a God that is always trying to help us do so. There's the joy! Not in seeing the bad in things, but knowing there's good to be found somewhere.

It's easy to gripe and complain when we're in the middle of life's messy times. It's easy to whine and think about how unfair and uncomfortable those battles are. It's common to feel sorry for ourselves and get upset because we don't get our way. It's natural to wonder why we have to face the trials that come our way. But considering that everyone does that and it rarely seems to help, then it must not be the best way.

Maybe it's more in line with what we talked about yesterday. Maybe it's learning to smile in the middle of the suck. Maybe it's about finding the strength to laugh when we feel like crying. Just maybe it's about being crazy enough to see that there's always something good to find in even the worst situation. We've all tried to common way of acting like little kids that don't get their way. So maybe we should try handling things the exact opposite.

The truth of the matter is that it's all perspective. Nothing will ever change or lessen the hard times we face. They are what they are. But we need to remember that we always have a choice that determines the impact of what we go through. If we jump straight to complaining and feeling sorry for ourselves, then we're cutting off any chance to find the silver lining in the clouds swirling around us. But if we can face anything and everything with a smile on our face and joy in our hearts, then we will always be able to see the lessons that God is trying to teach us.

Everybody wants to live calm, peaceful, and happy lives. We just need to stop making it so hard to do so. Don't let the hard times get you down. If you can keep your head up and find the good in whatever you're dealing with, then you my friend have found the secret to that peace we're all looking for. Just remember that you have a choice. Life can either bring you down and make you bitter, or it can teach you things and make you better. You get to choose, so choose well!

  1. Be thankful for the trials, Grandma Nellie said "he isn't finished with me yet" we are far from perfect and just understand that it is all for a reason.

    1. Amen, think about that little quote all the time! Keeps life interesting to know that we always have something to learn or improve. Thankful for the chance!
