Day 2032 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.

1 John 1:8 NIV

Yesterday we talked about how for some reason we find it easier to do what's wrong and ask for forgiveness later than just doing what's right to begin with. We would rather complain about the downside of our sins than to actually address them and do better. I know a lot of people hate the idea of change, but come on! Look sin is real and it is dangerous. We have to stop sugar-coating that fact. Yeah, the truth hurts, but not nearly as bad as continuing to live a lie!

Sin seeks justification. If we can find some way to convince ourselves that our sins aren't that bad, then we don't have to feel so bad. Again, wouldn't it just be easier to stop living in sin than to keep on and try to find ways to make ourselves feel better? Just seems like a whole lot of extra work to make ourselves feel better when we could just put that effort into actually making better choices and becoming better for it.

If we're doing something that's flat-out wrong and looking for ways to tell ourselves that we're not, then we're clearly in some weird state of denial that will never help us. We never feel the need to justify doing what's right. There's just no need. Right is right and nobody can argue against it. But evil, evil makes us feel horrible and nobody wants to feel like that. So we lie.

We lie to ourselves to make it all feel better. We don't actually change anything. We don't address the underlying issues because that takes work. We just keep doing the same messed up things and pretend that it's all good. Guys, we have to stop playing around and fooling ourselves if we ever hope to grow. We have to learn to see sin for the massive problem that it is and actually do something about it.

Lying to ourselves will never get us anywhere. It will just leave us broken, lost in this never-ending maze of losing hope and spiraling out of control. We've all sinned, and we all know the cost of those mistakes. It's time that we own up to it and be better for it. We can keep sweeping it under the rug and pretend it's not that bad, but that will only allow the brokenness to live on. So instead of all the lying and pretending, just be honest and you will be better for it!

  1. This really goes along with your last few post. God direct us in the way we should go and keep us safe, we have to be treated fairly for the things that we do, noone is without sin. Walk with Jesus, love God above everything and live a life that he would be proud of us living.

    1. Amen! That's something that's on my mind every single day, aiming to make Him proud. I think we get so worried about making everyone else think highly of us that we forget there's only one opinion that matters.
