Day 2036 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.

Psalm 46:10 NIV

Stillness. Quiet. Tranquility. Those are some rare things in life anymore. So much of our day-to-day life is all about the rush. Everybody's running around like crazy trying to stay ahead of things. We're all so worried about potentially falling behind in this man-made rat-race that we inevitably forget all about the peace and calm that we once prioritized.

My family and I have really gotten into the little evening drives out to a local Civil War battlefield near where we live. There's just this amazing peace that you find once you get out of the city and out of cell coverage. No checking emails. No getting caught up on social media. No worrying about what we're missing or what the latest headline happens to be. Just calm.

I think we get so caught up in trying to be the best we can be that we forget to just be. We forget to live. We forget to take time to break away from everything. And in doing so, we allow the things that bring us peace and happiness to get shoved aside by things that may not matter as much. We need to start letting ourselves enjoy life again, and not always worry about everything around us.

Folks, God's still God. He's always going to be. His plans and His will are still going to be fulfilled. Nothing we face can stop what He has in store. And nothing we do can force anything to be different or move faster. We need to stop running with the world and get back to walk with Christ. Sometimes we're so busy that we outrun our Savior. It just doesn't need to be that way.

So I just wanted to encourage everybody to slow down. Life doesn't need to be hurried. I know the old 'stop and smell the roses' thing has almost become cliché, but it really does matter. We need to give ourselves time to live, laugh, breathe, experience, and stay in tune with God's plans for us. Let the world and everyone else in it keep right on running. While they're all rushing to something that doesn't matter, we get to sit back and truly enjoy everything that does!

Be still, and know that He is God. Please don't make anything else your god. Don't live your life to serve a job, a possession, a deadline, an expectation, or anything else. Trust in Him, focus on Him, and always stay walking with Him. Fast or slow our lives will be what they're meant to be. No point in running through them and potentially missing something that He created just for us to experience.

Comments

  1. He will have his will and we do not need to push. The drives out of town are nice, the quiet and the still is nice. When we are quiet we can hear better.
