Day 2076 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.

1 John 1:9 NIV

Been talking about pride a bit, and well, it's just one of those things that we need to let go. TobyMac posted one of his little posts this morning and it's honestly one of my favorites yet. "The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let things go." And that's had me thinking about all the things that I've managed to let go and walk away from over the years. Letting go can be one of the very best choices we ever make!

This verse is along that same kind of idea. When we let go of our sins, our mistakes, our weaknesses and failures, then and only then can we experience the beauty of freedom. Only when we open up and lay everything out before God can He move in and get to work on making us better. Why hold on to something bad when you can let it go and move on?

We all have things that we've held on to long enough. We all have things that we can let go. And I know that our pride or shame can get in the way. Pride tells us that we're okay and can fix our problems on our own. Our shame reminds us of our flaws and convinces us that we're broken beyond repair. Faith tells us a totally different story. It tells us that we need God because we can't do it alone. It reminds us that we're loved even though we've really made a mess of things.

So it's okay to let go. Made me think of a little challenge that I'd like everyone to try out. Think of one bad thing in your life that you can let go. Something that makes you feel ashamed or embarrassed. Something that brings you pain or anger. Maybe it's eating too much junk food. Maybe it's scrolling through social media looking to be offended. Maybe it's something that someone said that hurt you. Whatever it may be, we all have something negative that we can let go of. So try it.

What we'll find when we finally let go is that we wasted so much time trying to hold on until we could fix something. We wasted time and energy trying to hide or control or ignore things that held us back. And all along we could have just been open, honest, and found a freedom from all that weight.

We do not need to be weighed down by anything negative. There's simply no reason. So let it go. It might hurt your pride a little to admit the things you've done. It might be scary to walk away from something you think you need. But please trust me when I say that it's truly worth it! Give it a try and I promise you'll see that for yourself!
