Day 2174 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.

Philippians 2:3 NIV

We talked yesterday about how dangerous it is to set our sights on gaining worldly things for ourselves. We can end up losing who God created us to be just so we can gain earthly possessions and comforts. Life is more than just us and what we think we want. It's about more than the material and temporal things that so many prioritize. If our time here is only spent on us then we're missing out on being a part of something far bigger and more meaningful!

Back in December, my family and I sat down and did something that had been on my mind for quite a while. We got the opportunity to sponsor a couple of kids through Compassion. And I have to say, it's been one of the most amazing and heart-warming experiences ever! It has helped remind me of the fact that we really can make a big difference for others. And that in doing so we receive this joy that no worldly thing can't offer us.

We received a letter from one of them this morning and it instantly brought smiles and happiness all around. You know, when our lives are being lived for ourselves then we remain convinced that we've got it good. When we're surrounding ourselves with everything we could possibly want then we think we're successful. But all that stuff, the titles, the popularity, the worldly possessions, they’re really nothing but blinders that keep us from seeing beyond ourselves.

I just wanted to encourage everyone to look for the chances that God gives us to help others. If we spend all of our time here focused only on ourselves then when we die what have we gained? If it was all about us then everything we accomplished dies with us. But if we live to help others and make a difference in the world around us then we've truly done something big. We've done something that reached beyond the scope of our lives and touched the lives of others. There's no way that's not more valuable than making it all about us!

That's exactly what this verse is telling us. Live for more than just you. Do something to help someone else along this journey. Reach out and share the love and kindness that God's shown us in Christ. Make humility your goal and I promise you'll make a seriously positive impact in this place!

  1. Amen. It is a joy the is not replaced by anything else. Knowing that we can make a difference big or small in someone elses life. To be blessed with that gift to do so. It's what we are here to do.

    1. Exactly!! I honestly believe it feels so amazing because it's what we're made to do. Any time that we're living like God wants us to live we're just going to feel right!
