Day 2207 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.

Ecclesiastes 7:9 NIV

Just gonna say it, we live in arguably the most foolish time in history! So much anger over such insignificant matters. Woke up this morning to see yet another person apologizing for something that they didn't need to apologize for all because some folks got their feathers ruffled. Not really sure when we decided that it was okay to judge everyone and be angry all the time but it's clearly not helping anyone make anything any better!

Now as far as I can tell, this whole "cancel-culture" thing we've got running wild these days is the very definition of what this verse is talking about. Everyone is searching high and low for things that offend them. People are combing social media looking for anything that they can become angry about. Why so many want to stand in judgement and be so angry all the time is seriously beyond me!

There used to be this hope that cooler heads would prevail. People were more inclined to aim for peace rather than strife. Getting along with others was a bigger goal than dividing everyone up and throwing stones at anyone that you didn't like or agree with. But alas I believe that those days are dead and gone. It seems that too many are okay with operating from a base of anger and looking only to the things that offend them.

A pretty wise man once said that hate is too great a burden to bear. Anger, hatred, malice, and judgement cause nothing but wounds. They create more problems to fix, more gaps to bridge. And at some point those gaps just might become too big to cross. We can't let that happen if we truly hope to make things better. We can't allow anger to become our basic human reaction to everything. If we do then we are going to suffer for it.

Friends, this verse is reminding us that anger isn't the best way to go. We won't always get along with everyone else. We won't always agree with what everyone else says or does. All of us will make mistakes by saying or doing things before thinking about them. We need to give people the same latitude to be human that we ourselves hope to receive. Unless we calm down and stop being so quickly provoked over every little thing that anyone else does we will never again find peace in this world.
