Day 2295 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.
Proverbs 28:1 NIV
A life of sin is a life of running. Always trying to outrun the shame. Always trying to outrun the guilt. Always trying to find some way of convincing ourselves that what we're doing isn't wrong or leading us to a place we don't want to go. Living a life of sin means that we will constantly have to find ways to fight against the truth because we know in our hearts that the truth will confront our wickedness and leave us feeling like garbage.
That's why people who are under the control of sin are always ready to fight and argue with anyone who points out their mistakes. Nobody wants to hear that they're messing up. Nobody wants to discuss their flaws and weaknesses. And that's especially true when we already know that what we're doing isn't right. The sin inside of us has to fight back against the truth because righteousness and evil cannot coexist.
Let's face it, a life of sin is tiring. Feeling like we have to hide things and cover up our actions. Looking over our shoulder to make sure nobody sees us doing things we're ashamed of doing. Running from the truth so that we don't have to feel bad. Why live like that? Why feel like we have to hang out in the darkness so that our mistakes don't come to light? Sounds like a pretty miserable existence if you ask me. Thankfully we don't have to live slithering around darting from dark corner to dark corner.
When you're living right and following God then you have nothing to be ashamed of. You have nothing to hide. You don't need justification for doing what's right because nobody can argue with God's truth. You don't need to seek outside approval because righteousness just doesn't need it. Living righteously and doing what we know is right and true allows us to live boldly, not hiding but holding our heads high never worrying about anything!
Friends, don't live under the control of sin and the weight that it brings. Why spend your life running and trying to avoid the truth when you can live undaunted and unafraid? Sin is innately scary because we all know the truth whether we admit it or not. Sin leads to suffering and that's not something anyone wants. Just know that you don't have to live in fear. You don't have to live in shame. You don't have to hide in the dark and find ways to ignore the mistakes you're making. Just turn to Christ. Let Him help you fix all those problems and live a life that's unencumbered by guilt and shame.
He goes before us and Jesus will lead us in the right direction. We need not fear.
