Day 2327 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.
1 Corinthians 6:12 NIV
I reckon we all ought to think more than we do. We need to seriously consider our words, choices, and actions to ensure that they're true and proper. We need to evaluate everything so that nothing evil or sullied creeps in unnoticed. Sin is a sneaky business. We're taught to worry about the big ones like murder and greed, but friends, those little sins are still sins and they are still a far cry from who we're called to be and how we're called to live these lives during our stay here on this ball of dirt and water.
We hear so much about these rights that we have. Everyone these days is all about protecting their rights. As we've discussed at length in these posts lately, people love that earthly right to do whatever they want to do. That kind of egocentric freedom has this appeal that caters to everyone. People really are convinced that they have the right to do anything so long as it makes them happy or allows them to feel good. But I think we've mistaken the idea of latitude for liberty. We may think we have the right to do anything, but that doesn't mean that we're free!
You see, God does give us the latitude to make our own choices. He gives us the opportunity to choose between His way and the ways of this world. And I don't care who will or won't admit it, we've all chosen that path of doing as we please rather than following God's direction in life. We've bought that idea that we can do anything and we've ran wild with it. But that's why we need to really think about everything we do. We may have the opportunity to do anything we so choose, but that doesn't mean that everything is okay. We might enjoy the thought of making our own way and living to please only ourselves, but that definitely does not mean that our choices are anywhere near the best ones!
We can live under the ruse that we have this right to do anything we want to do. But is that really freedom? Or are we being controlled by something that only feeds us the lies that keep us under that illusion? To be honest, we all know the difference! We've lived part of these lives doing as we please. But did those choices benefit us? Did they help us become better people? Did they deepen our faith? Did they push us closer to God? Or did they only pull us further from the joy and peace that we were looking for? The lies of sin are exciting and they convince us that we've found freedom. But in reality, sin controls us. It drags us into places we don't really want to go.
Friends, please stop mistaking sin for freedom. Stop thinking that you have the right to do anything. In this world that may be the case. But in God's eyes, that just ain't gonna cut it! We're not here to be mastered by our own desires or to live under the domination of darkness. All that junk may be exciting, but that doesn't mean that it helps us be the best that we can be. And it definitely doesn't help us live for Christ. Don't spend your life being controlled by sin and selfishness. We've all been there and done that, and we know full well that it just ain't what it's cracked up to be.
Contrary to what we often here, there just might be a difference between our "rights" and what's actually right. And that difference may be far bigger than we like to think!

It's far bigger. He knows whats best, live for him and keep him at the head of our lives.
ReplyDeleteAmen! Letting anything else take the stage will only leave us lost!
