Day 2450 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.
John 3:16 NIV
This is arguably the most well-known verse in the entire Bible. And that's for good reason! It is one of the best summations of our faith and the reason for the hope and joy that we find in walking with Christ. It reminds us of how amazing our God is, why He chooses to forgive us, and what we need to focus on and what we need to do in order to remain on the path that leads to the salvation that He offers. It is the most incredible story, amazing gift, and inspiring calling there is!
But sadly it seems like it’s becoming sort of lost in our world today. We’re all looking for something. Each of us have this void inside that leaves us feeling empty and lost. And so we are left to try and find something to fill it so that we don’t have this hole that keeps hope and peace and joy at a distance. But unfortunately we all get turned around looking in all the wrong places.
We look in worldly things to bring the fulfillment that we know we need, but this place has nothing that lasts. We look to material possessions to bring satisfaction and joy, but even when we do find it in those things it’s extremely fleeting. We look for other people who can help prop us up and keep the wind in our sails so that we don’t start sinking below the waves. But then they go in other directions or end up not being who we had hoped they were and we’re left feeling deflated and hopeless all over again.
Friends, everything that we’re looking for is found in Christ. The hope. The peace. The joy. The satisfaction. The fulfillment. The guidance. The support. The strength. Everything! We don’t need to look anywhere else because this world has nothing that can come close to comparing with all that He offers us. And the best part is that what He offers is eternal! It doesn’t fade. It doesn’t lose its power. His love for us will never be less amazing than it is right now.
That’s what we miss when we go looking in other places. We miss out on the opportunity to find rest for our souls. We miss the chance to stop living our lives always searching for something to make us happy or keep us going. Once we open our hearts to Him and experience the amazing gift that His grace truly is then we’ll finally be able to see that nothing else is needed because His love lacks nothing. And it never will! That’s a promise that will see us through the rest of eternity!
I think one of the most amazing part is that He came for us. We’ve spent all this time and all this energy looking in millions of places only to be disappointed millions of times. And all along He’s been standing there just waiting for us to turn around and realize that He’s simply waiting for us to accept Him into our hearts. We don’t have to find some secret spot where He’s hiding. We don’t have to learn some special thing to say to summon His presence. We just have to surrender and let Him in!
How anyone could refuse that gift is beyond me. We don’t have to do anything!! He came for us. He chose us. He died for us. It was and is and will always be completely on Him. And that’s where it should always be anyway. As we talked about yesterday, we’re completely dependent on Him and the sooner we realize that the sooner we find the peace and fulfillment that we’ve been seeking. Don’t wait any longer folks! He’s done all the hard work and opened the doors that we had shut. Just step through them and experience a love that is unlike anything you’ve ever known before!
I love this verse. It tells the story of how we were saved and given life that there would be no other wa to get. Thank you Jesus.
