Day 2507 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.
Romans 12:12 NIV
This is one of those verses that we can carry with us every single day that we're here. Short, simple, and full of some of the best wisdom there is. And I think it's just about perfect for the start of this new year that we're now a few days into. We don't know what lies ahead. We can't imagine the challenges that are coming our way. We may not ever have the comfort of foresight but that just gives us more opportunities to learn to trust in the truths found in God's word.
We all started off this year with hope. Hope that the days ahead are better than the days behind. Hope that we're closer to the end of the worldwide challenges we've been facing the past couple of years. Hope that our friends and family have a good year full of health and happiness. Hope that we have plenty of opportunities to grow in faith and strengthen our walk with Christ. Hope is just one of those things that is always there to keep us going and lift our spirits when life is trying to pull us down.
But there are the inevitable trials and challenges. Every year has them. Shoot, every day has them! The past couple of years have shown us that fact to be as true as ever. So we shouldn't expect this year to be all sunshine and happiness. We know that we're going to have rough days. But we need to remember that those rougher moments don't have the power to pull us down if we don't give it to them. They're just one more unavoidable aspect of life that we all know is always going to be there. So don't worry about what may come or how hard it may be. You'll get through it just like all the hard days before.
Then there's that last part. Be constant in prayer. I don't know that there's a more important reminder than that one. Prayer is one of the most powerful, most important, and most foundational aspects of our faith. It's our chance to refocus on God and break away from all that's going on around us. It's our opportunity to unload some of the weight we've been carrying. It's a chance to plug back into our source of power when life has worn us down and left us drained. It's a reminder that there's something bigger than all that we can see and that we can always take whatever we're feeling to the One who can help with every bit of it.
Friends, I hope that everyone takes this one along with them through every day up ahead. When life is good, rejoice. Appreciate the good days. Embrace every single day and every single blessing you're given. But when life gets a little wonky, be patient. Don't start worrying. Don't start doubting. Don't lose your cool and give your circumstances the ability to dictate your thoughts, actions, or emotions. Just stay calm and give God the room He needs to lead you through those rough spots. And through it all, the good and the bad, make prayer a priority in life. It's more important and more powerful than we could possibly imagine!
This verse and the advice in it will see us through whatever life brings. Hope, patience, and prayer. If we lean on those three things then it doesn't matter what the new year holds. Joy and peace will be with us every step of the way!
