Day 2296 of the 7 day Bible verse challenge.

Isaiah 59:2 NIV

We're all sold this lie that sin leads to freedom. You can do whatever your heart desires. And we've seen that for ourselves. We've all lived in sin and we know that feeling of having no limits. We know that sense of freedom that comes with being able to do whatever we want. But what nobody really mentions is that it's more fleeting than we could ever imagine!

They say that sin leads to satisfaction, but what does it lead away from? You see, that's the side of the story that nobody ever thinks about. We're really bad about that as humans. We only see one side of things. We only look at the benefits of something. We only allow ourselves to see what we want to see so that we can try to avoid the down side. But we should really spend more time weighing the consequences because we can't ignore or avoid them forever.

The truth is that sin leads us away from God. God is peace. God is love. God is hope. God is light. God is righteousness, and truth, and courage, and strength, and every other good thing. So when we allow our sinful desires to pull us away from Him, then we're being pulled away from all of that goodness as well. It's no wonder that sin eventually leaves us feeling so miserable! It leads us away from everything good and leaves us with nothing but brokenness and despair.

Sin is this lie that pulls us away from His truth. It fills our minds and our hearts with this selfishness that makes ourselves the goal. It leads us into the darkness where we're inevitably going to end up lost. That may seem harmless at first but the further we follow that road the worse it gets. Again, we all know this. We've all experienced it. We've all felt that temporary excitement and satisfaction fade only to leave us with anger and resentment.

Friends, I'm hitting this idea hard lately because sin isn't good enough. It offers us nothing that lasts, nothing worth having in the first place. Sin only builds up this separation between us and God. It will never lead us to peace because God is peace. We don't want to face this life without God. Things are only going to get worse and worse until Christ returns. Don't stay separated from Him. Start tearing down that wall of wickedness so that His light can shine in!
